Water Pressure Measurement in a Water Authority System
Water authority systems require multiple stations to be setup for water management and quality assurance. The Columbian government wanted to establish an automated water pressure measurement and monitoring system for their authority system in Bogotá. Advantech's solution enabled the pressure data to be read by a Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) while all relevant data can be transferred to the main control center via cellular network with a wireless communication network backup system. This design ensures that all data can be transferred without interruption or information loss.

Cost-effective EKG Machine for Medical Technician Training
Electrocardiography (EKG) is a transthoracic interpretation of the electrical activity of the heart over time captured and externally recorded by skin electrodes. EKG machines are some of the most important equipment in a hospital or medical setting, allowing medical technicians to constantly monitor the heartbeat of unconscious or sleeping patients. One of Advantech’s customers was looking for help in creating a new cost-effective EKG machine that could be used for training use.

Ship Lock Control System with WebAccess
Lock control systems are used to raise and lower the levels of water to allow vessels access. In sections with large water level differences, they control the water line by using a ship lock to ensure the safety of passing ships. Generally operation rooms will be established at both upstream and downstream valves to realize centralized and separate operation at the same time. What’s more, the general control room and electromechanical maintenance room need to be integrated, so as to monitor real-time field conditions.

GIS Railway VOIP Communication System
GIS Railway in Italy was seeking to develop a VOIP system for their railway applications. They wanted an infrastructure that featured a redundant SHDSL line and allowed connection to a variety of devices, from modern IP interfaces to old analog telephones. This project was very important, as it would lay the foundation for their communications system for many years to come, with many upgrades and expansions already planned.

Network Infrastructure for Metro System in Brazil
A network infrastructure is the heart of any communications system, and includes all of the routers, switches, wireless access points, access methods and protocols needed to operate a modern enterprise. The Metro system in Brazil was looking to upgrade their existing network, and turned to Advantech for the necessary products and know-how. Their main central control center needed a system to monitor and control the communication quality, and required products compatible with their digital analyzers.

Supermarket Self-Checkout System
Supermarket business is becoming more and more integrated with IT automation. Currently the biggest irritation for customers in a supermarket is the waiting queue at the checkout. As we all know, every product has to be scanned manually before you can pay and leave the supermarket. By scanning the products yourself during shopping it becomes easy to finally pay directly at the desk. The information from the scanner has to be transferred to the cash register.

Automated Bicycle Rental System
In order to reduce pollution and improve the efficiency of public transportation, many cities are encouraging a renaissance of bicycle transportation. The main issue facing such promotions is the inconvenience of bicycle rentals in general; people usually have to return them where they rented them, there aren’t attendees available 24/7 and the locations aren’t always located near commuter hotspots. One city in the Netherlands was looking to create bicycle rental stations for their commuters, and turned to Advantech to help them build a state-of-the-art automated solution.

Steel Factory Control & Monitoring System
In the past, relay devices were the main components for industrial automation control systems, and some existing factories still use them today. But in today’s complicated systems, relays provide limited use, poor flexibility and unreliable stability. Moreover, they are not easily maintained, the control panel is big and heavy, and is not easy to move. With the advent of PLC & PC-based control systems, new systems can easily benefit from easy configuration, high flexibility and high stability. One steel factory was looking to upgrade their system with a new PLC-based control system with a redundant Ethernet network.
